Amos Wasn't Famous Children's Ministry Lesson

Scripture Reference - Amos 1:1, Amos 7:14

Children learn that God can use anyone to do his work. You don't have to be famous or smart. You just have to obey and listen to God's calling. Following are some ideas from the lesson. The complete lesson with coloring sheets, craft patterns, etc., is available to Resource Room members only.

Taste Figs Lesson Introduction

Bring in figs and have the children taste them. If you have any children actually eat them tell them that Amos would have been proud of them. Also bring in Fig Newtons for them to taste.

Amos wasn't famous.
He was just like me and you.

When God told him what to do,
he didn't say boo hoo.

He left his little sheep
and took a great big leap.

He went to prophesy
to all the girls and guys.

He obeyed the Lord above,
and shared Gods' words with love.

He told the people to obey
and turn from their sins today.

No, Amos wasn't famous.

"Famous in God's Eyes" Buttons or Bookmarks Craft

Remind your children that they are famous in God's Eyes.

"Famous in God's Eyes!" Button or Bookmark Craft for Sunday Schoolfrom www.daniellesplace ©2011

1. Use a imaging computer program to draw three inch circles.

2. Write "I want to be famous in God's eyes like Amos" around the edge of the circle and make a face in the center.

3. Print the patterns out onto colorful paper and cut them out.

4. Cut 12" lengths of one-inch blue ribbon. Fold the ribbons in half and tape them to the back of the button.

5. Use a piece of rolled up masking tape to stick to your children's clothes.

These can also be used as bookmarks. Make lots of extra because your children will probably want to make one for their whole family. (This idea was sent in by Bobbi) (Patterns for this craft are available to members on The Resource Room.)

"Picking Figs" Game for Amos Children's Sermon

"Picking Figs" Bible Verse Review Game for Amos Bible Lesson on www.daniellesplace.com

1. Before class cut fig shapes from card stock. Write one word of the verse on each fig shape. Make several sets of the Bible verse figs.

2. In class remind your children about how Amos grew figs. Tell them that they are going to pretend to pick figs and review the Bible verse.

3. Break the class up into teams and have them line up in rows across the room.

4.Place baskets at one end of the room opposite each team.

5. Place the sets figs at the other end of the rows of teams on the floor next to each child that is first in the line.

6. To play on the word "go" the first child in each row should pick up one fig at a time in the order of the verse and pass it to the child next to him in line. The child should tell the child next to him the word each fig as he passes them. The child who receives the fig should look at the fig to make sure it is the correct word and in the correct order, and then pass it to the next child saying the word as he passes it. Each child in line should do exactly the same thing until the last child places it in the basket at the end of the line. The child who places the figs in the basket should place one fig on top of the other so he has one pile of figs that spells out the Bible verse in order.

7. The team that gets all its figs in order in the basket first wins. Make sure you check the figs in the basket to see if they are in order. Have your children read each fig as you check them.

Note: You can use just one set of figs and one basket and have one team at a time pass the figs. Time each team to see which one completes the task in the shortest amount of time.

Just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you for your site. It has been a blessing for me and a resource I have been unable to find in the Christian book stores. I teach Sunday School and Children's Church for a small church in central California. You have given me new inspiration and a willingness to continue teaching even though I am struggling with burn out. Thank you so much and God Bless you and your work. Tammy

These sheets are great for both younger children and older children. Younger children will enjoy coloring the sheets, while older children can add doodles of their own. Print out doodle samples from the Internet. Follow our Pinterest board below to see doodle samples.

Coloring sheets are a great way to keep children busy while you are waiting for all the children to show up or to keep children busy during church services.

They can also be used as a aid to help children remember their Bible verses.

This sheet is available in both KJV and NIV.
