Each day presents a special activity that encourages them to think beyond themselves and focus on the joy of helping others.
This calendar goes along with the Sunday school lesson "Greedy Petie" on The Resource Room.

They learn that Jesus wants them to be happy and thankful for what they have been given.

Make a Children’s Book of Quotes
1. Before class, come up with some thought-provoking questions such as:
- What is God like?
- Why do you think God created people, cats, dogs, etc.?
- Why can’t we see God?
- Where did God come from?
- How do we get to heaven?
- What do you think heaven will be like?
- Why did God make you?
- What can we learn from the lesson of Daniel and the lion’s den?
- Why do bad things happen to people sometimes?
- How old is God?
- What is God doing up in heaven?
2. In class, tell the children that they are going to all help make a book. Ask them to draw pictures for the book of their favorite things. Have them use a pencil so that you can make copies of them (or make color copies). Have them work on their pictures while you ask the children questions individually.
3. Ask the children the questions individually so they don’t hear each other’s answers. Don’t worry if they can’t answer all the questions. Just write down the ones they answer. If their answers are short, ask them why they think that or other questions to explain themselves further.
4. Put all the questions and their answers together with their pictures in a book.
5. Make copies and give one to each child to give to their parents at Christmas.
Start this project early. You will need a lot of time to complete it. You can also tell the children they can draw pictures at home and bring them in to be included in the book to save time at church. This idea comes from the website “Kids Talk About God”.
Work On a Recipe Book
Have your students participate in creating a classroom recipe book to share with family and friends. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, ask your students to bring in their favorite recipes or write one of their own. In class, have them create illustrations to accompany the recipes. You can also include some of your own fun recipes for children, such as how to make playdough. Gather all the recipes together to compile a book and create a cover for it. Make copies of the book so each child can give one to their parents.
Make Christmas Ornaments
Teach your students how to combat the Greedies by focusing on the Christmas spirit through this creative activity. Have your students create Christmas ornaments that can be donated to local hospitals or shelters. As they work, discuss how happy the people in these facilities will feel when they receive the ornaments. Emphasize the joy we experience when we do nice things for others.
Children color two of each ornament, glue them together and then stuff them with crinkled tissue paper to give them a 3D effect. Finally, encourage them to add ribbons, bows, or other decorative items to the tops of the ornaments. There are five different designs to choose from: Joy, Jesus (not pictured), Peace on Earth, Love, and Hope.

Make Christmas Cards for Friends and Family
Creating gifts for others is a powerful way to combat selfishness. Gather card-making supplies like glitter glue, stickers, ribbons, and festive rubber stamps to inspire your students to craft personalized Christmas cards. Additionally, consider cutting out images from old Christmas cards for them to incorporate into their creations.
As your children work on their cards, talk about how good it makes us feel when we do nice things for others. Encourage them to make cards for friends and family, or even better, take these beautiful creations to a local senior facility to uplift spirits and bring joy to those who may be feeling lonely or overlooked.
Easy Snowman Hot Chocolate Cup Craft
This craft can be given to the homeless at your local shelter. As your children work, talk about how happy the people at the shelter will be to receive hot chocolate mixes. Ask them how it feels to make things for others in need.
Encouraging your students to make gifts for others is a great way to teach them about the joy of giving. Before class, prepare hot chocolate mixes. In class, have your students fill treat bags with mini marshmallows, place them in a cup with the hot chocolate mix, and then attach the snowman head and arm patterns to the top of the bag.
These delightful hot chocolate treats can be donated to the homeless at your local shelter. As your students engage in this activity, discuss how much joy their gifts will bring to those in need. Invite them to share their feelings about making something special for others, fostering a sense of empathy and connection. Together, we can make a meaningful difference!
The patterns for this craft come in black and white and color with no faces so children can draw their own, and with faces.
