Play "Guess the Song"
Play a few notes of song to see if your students can recognize the song. If they don't recognize the song after a few notes, play some more of the song. When a child guesses which song is playing, ask the child how the song makes him or her feel. Does it make you feel happy, sad, excited, etc.? Keep playing until all the children have had a chance to guess a song and share their feelings.

Sing a Song About Sad King Saul
Sad
King Saul
(Sing
to the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb.)
(As your children sing the song have them hold up the sad and happy King Saul stick puppets (above) and turn the puppet to the appropriate face when singing about him being sad or glad.)
Poor King Saul was very sad, very sad, very sad,
Poor King Saul was very sad, he didn't know what
to do.
David came to make him glad, make him glad, make him glad.
David came to make him glad, he sang some songs for him.
On his harp he played some songs, played some songs, played some songs.
On his harp he played some songs, then King Saul sang along.
