1. Psalm 141:3 Bible Verse Coloring and Activity Sheet

Encourage children to participate in a fun and meaningful activity by coloring this worksheet. Have them take it home and display it on their refrigerator as a powerful reminder to practice self-control with their words. Challenge them to reflect on their actions—if they successfully hold back from one of the behaviors listed on the sheet, they should mark it with pride! And if they face challenges, encourage them to write it down as a valuable lesson, helping them commit to mastering their speech in the future. Let’s empower our children with the tools they need to grow in wisdom and kindness!

Children will enjoy coloring and completing this activity sheet. Instruct them to take it home and attach it to the refrigerator as a reminder to control their tongues. If they successfully "control their tongues" by refraining from one of the actions listed on the sheet, they should mark it. If they are not successful, they can still write it down to remind themselves to exercise self-control in the future.

Complete Bible Lesson

In this lesson, the teacher draws a powerful comparison between the pain inflicted by a dog bite and the emotional harm caused by backbiting. Just as we instinctively avoid dogs that may bite, people tend to steer clear of those who engage in backbiting and speak unkindly about others. It's essential for children to understand how backbiting not only hurts those around them but also hurts themselves.

To drive this lesson home, the children will explore real-life examples of the effects of backbiting. They will then engage in an exciting relay game using dog puppets and bones inscribed with the words of the Watchdog motto. This interactive experience emphasizes the importance of our words and actions through the Watchdog Motto: "I will watch my ways and control what I say." Children are encouraged to keep a watch over their tongues throughout the week.

Canvas Dog Puppet Craft for Kids

Dog Puppet Craft from www.daniellesplace.com

What you will need:

Canvas Hand Puppet

Green and Pink Acrylic Paint

Cardboard from a Box

Red and White Fun Foam

Wiggle Eyes

Low Temp Mini Glue Gun

How to Make the Dog Puppet:

1. Cut out nose shapes from black felt, ear shapes from different colors of felt, and tongue shapes from pink felt. Color the inside of the mouth pink with a marker or crayon, and glue on the nose, ears, and eyes. (You may want to do this with a hot melt glue gun.)

2. To finish, color the puppet with markers. You can also add spots, whiskers, etc.

Paper Bag Dog Puppet

Use this adorable dog paper bag puppet as a craft and to review the Watchdog Motto, "I will watch my ways and control what I say."

Before class, cut out bone shapes from card stock and write one word of the motto on each bone. In class, split your children up into teams and place them in rows. Give each team a set of dog bones.

Place the sets of dog bones on the floor in front of the first child in each team and have all the children place their puppets on their hands. (Try to place a child who can read in line first.) If your children are too small to read, have an adult helper for each team. The adults will read the words to the child who is first in line. On the word “Go,” the first child in line should pick up one of the bones with the mouth of his or her dog puppet, read the word, and give it to the child next in line. The child next in line should take the bone with his dog puppet and then tell the child next in line the word and give it to him. The team that has all its bones at the end of the line first wins. (Note: You may want to use rubber bands to hold the puppets to younger children’s wrists if you are using the material puppets. They are quite big and fall off when the children are trying to pass the bones from one child to the next.)

Backbiting Dog Biscuit Snack

To wrap up your lesson in a fun and engaging way, treat the children to delightful biscuits shaped like dogs and bones, made from scrumptious biscuit dough. If time allows and you have access to an oven, why not give the kids the exciting opportunity to create the biscuits themselves? This hands-on experience will not only reinforce their learning but also make the lesson unforgettable!an oven, consider having the children make the biscuits themselves.

Songs for Younger Children

Two songs relating to the Bible theme are included for younger children. These catchy tunes are based on well-loved songs like "The Wheels on the Bus" and "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star," making it easy for little ones to remember the melodies and sing along.
