Watchdog Bible Lesson 1 - Take Heed!

 

 

Welcome to an exciting journey with our first of five Sunday school lessons, all centered around the engaging theme of watchdogs! In this lesson, children will uncover the vital role of a watchdog group and will be inspired to join the "Watch My Ways" watchdog group. They'll learn that just like a watchdog keeps a vigilant eye on its owners, they too must keep an eye on their own behaviors.

This is more than just a lesson—it's an opportunity for children to become proactive members of their community! As they embark on this adventure, they'll learn to monitor their actions and words, empowering them to become responsible "watchdogs" in their own lives. Through engaging activities, they will remember the Watchdog Motto, Promise, and Official Bible Verse, and upon completing the "Watch My Ways" training, they will earn an official membership card, signifying their commitment.

Our lessons are designed to create a heightened awareness of how their choices impact others, instilling values that last a lifetime. Children will actively learn to "watch their ways" by exercising control over their speech, steering clear of lies, refraining from speaking ill of others, and minimizing complaints.

Each lesson is packed with exciting resources, including printable activity sheets, Bible verse cards, uplifting songs, creative crafts, and fun activities that bring the message to life. We've even included bulletin board printables with vibrant Bible verse posters and decorative paw prints to enhance the learning environment.

Bible Verse: "I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me. " Psalm 39:1, and Psalm 141:3

Included in this lesson:

1. Watchdog Bible Verse Coloring Sheet - Children can color a delightful picture of a dog alongside the Bible verse from Psalm 39:1: "I will take heed of my ways..." This activity reinforces the Bible lesson.

2. Moving Head Watchdog Picture - his activity is a spin on the coloring sheet! Kids can create a dog head that swings back and forth thanks to a brass fastener. It’s sure to bring some giggles!

3. "I will Pawsitively take Heed to my Ways" Picture Frame Craft - Time to get crafty! Children can decorate a picture frame with adorable paw prints, featuring the phrase, "I will pawsitively take heed of my ways" alongside a cheerful cartoon dog. This colorful masterpiece is perfect to take home and show off on the fridge as a reminder of the Bible verse!

4. Dog Bone Snacks - Who’s ready for some yummy fun? Kids will cut slices of bread into dog bone shapes, spread them with butter, and sprinkle on sugar and cinnamon to make these delightful, dog-themed treats!

5. Listening Activity - Let's put our listening skills to the test! Children will use their moving dog crafts to show when they hear different sounds. The teacher will jot down all the fun sounds they discover on the board!

6. Dog Bone Bible Verse Game and Craft - Get your creative juices flowing! Kids will fold paper into a playful dog shape and add their unique features. Afterward, they’ll receive dog bones with words from a Bible verse to take home. It’s a fantastic way to keep practicing the verse throughout the week. Have a blast!

Teaching Concept: Our tongues can be like poison and hurt people if we don't learn to control them. Children make "Tame Animal" Watchdog Treats, and color an activity sheet that says, "Don't Let You're Tongue Bully You Around."

We don't like it when our dogs whine so we teach them not to do it. God teaches us through his words that he does not like us to whine and complain.

Through this lesson children learn that good watchdogs are good detectors. They can detect noises and smells much better than humans and warn them when danger is near. We need to be good "lie detectors". Lies can sometimes be hard to detect because they come in so many forms such as white lies, exaggeration, breaking a promise, leaving out some of the facts, flattery, etc.

Children practice detecting lies by playing "Detect a Lie" Game. They receive an official "Watchdog Lie Detective" badge when they have completed the game.
