Sidewalk Obstacle Course for Easter Sunday Activity

Create a fun, active obstacle course that helps children experience the Easter story! This unforgettable activity is perfect after teaching the lesson. Kids will love being outside, moving, and learning as they walk through each part of the story.

Obstacle 1 - Palm Sunday

Draw palm leaf “stepping stones” leading toward Jerusalem.

Remind your students that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey while people laid palm branches on the ground to welcome Him like a king.

👉 Directions:
Children must step only on the palm leaves as they make their way to Jerusalem.

 

Obstacle 2 - Walking through Jerusalem

Draw colorful cobblestones in different shapes and sizes.

Ask your children:
👉 What did Jesus do while He was in Jerusalem?

👉 Directions:
Children step from stone to stone as they answer or discuss these events.

 

Obstacle 3 - The Garden of Gethsemane

Draw a winding path with fig trees and rocks.

Explain that this is the garden where Jesus prayed before He was arrested.

👉 Ask:

👉 Directions:
Children carefully follow the path, weaving around the trees and rocks.

 

Obstacle 4 - Golgotha

At the final station, draw a hill with crosses.

👉 Directions:
When children arrive, have them spin in a circle and praise God!

Remind them:
💛 The cross reminds us of Jesus’ great love and sacrifice, so we can be forgiven and have eternal life with Him.
