Bible Crafts and Activities for Job Theme - Job's First Test

Job's First Test Bible Lesson for Children

The following crafts and activities are from the first lesson "Job's First Test". This the first Bible lessons in the series about Job.

Teaching Concept: Even when bad things happen to us or our families, we should continue to trust in God. Sometimes, God allows bad things to happen so that we can grow in our faith. Sometimes, they are the result of sin (ours or someone else's), sometimes because we didn't heed warnings, and sometimes they are from the devil.

For the first test children draw a line from one picture of Job to the other without touching the lines on the picture. Before the lesson discuss with your students how well they did on the test and if they passed the test.

Place all the animal cards on the floor in the center of the room face down. On the word "go" one player from each team runs up and turns over one card and then gives it to their "Job" and says, "Job, all your donkey's, camels, oxen, or sheep (depending on what the picture is) have be taken away." Pick one child to be God and one to be the devil. Have them read the story's beginning and write a skit about the conversation. Then, pick one child to be Job and pick four messengers. Have them make up a skit and perform it before the class.

If you have younger children, they can perform the following skit or make a puppet skit.

God and the Devil

God: Where have you been?

Devil: I've been going all over the earth.

God: Have you noticed Job? Isn't he the best man you have ever seen?

Devil: Oh, there is nothing special about Job. He loves you because you give him everything he could ever want. If he didn't have everything, he would not love you anymore.

God: Very well, do whatever you want to him, but don't kill him.

Job and the Messengers

First Messenger: (Comes to Job and tells him the bad news.) Job! I have terrible news! Your donkeys and oxen are all gone. The Sabeans have taken them away! And even worse, all the servants have been killed! I'm the only one who escaped.

Job: (Looks shocked.)

Second Messenger: (While the first is still speaking.) Job! A fire from God fell from heaven and burned up all your sheep and all the servants! I'm the only one who survived.

Job: (Looks even more shocked.)

Third Messenger: (While the second is still speaking.) Job! Your enemies came and took away all your camels and killed all your servants! I am the only one that escaped.

Job: (Looks even more shocked.)

Fourth Messenger: (While the third is still speaking.) Job! All your sons and daughters are dead. A mighty wind came up and knocked the house in and killed them. I am the only one who escaped to tell you.

Job: (Job tears his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said:

"Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD." Job 1:21, KJV
