The following crafts and activities come from the Bible lesson "Building on the Rock" from the Bible series "Wise and Foolish Builders". This lesson is available to members on The Resource Room and as an instant digital download.
Building on the Rock and in the Sand
Before class place clean sand in pie tins or cookie sheets. Find some large flat rocks or bricks. In class instruct your children to build houses and other structures on the pile of sand and on the rocks. (This activity is used to introduce the Sunday School lesson - The Wise and Foolish Builders.)
Building On Jesus Activity Sheet
1. Before class print out the activity sheets and make copies. Make a sample craft for the children who do not know how to spell "Jesus".
This activity comes in both black and white and color. Cut out the blocks and house pictures and place them in the middle of the tables in your class.
2. In class have your children find the block pictures that spell out "Jesus" and the house picture and glue them to the Bible verse paper.
This activity sheet for preschoolers and elementary children.

The Rain Comes Down Activity
Set up a "House on the rock and the house on the sand" display. Bring in a container of water and a quarter cup measuring cup. Read the following scenarios and ask your children if the person in the scenario is building his house on a "Rock" or in the "Sand". If the scenario describes someone who is not listening and doing what Jesus says, the child should spill the water from the cup on the house on the sand. Keep playing, asking questions, until the house on the sand falls down.
If you don't want to use sand, you can draw a picture on a white board using white board markers and regular, water soluble markers. Use the white board marker to draw the wise man's house and the water soluble markers to draw the foolish man's house, clouds, and rain drops. Have your children take turns spraying the white board with a spray bottle filled with water when they have answered a question.
Example Question:
1. Johnny's mother told him to pick up his toys before going to bed, but Johnny didn't want to so he just shoved them all under the couch. Is Johnny building his house on the rock or on the sand? - Sand - he wasn't listening to God's words that says, "Obey your parents."

Building According to a Plan
Children build churches from blocks using printable plans to reinforce the Bible concept that they should follow God's plan.
What you will need:
Large Toothpicks and Glue
Tape
Paper
(Note: Children cannot make all seven designs using this 80 piece set. You will have to reuse pieces.
Each 80 piece set comes with two of the larger top pieces (triangles) and four of the smaller triangle pieces, exactly what is pictured in the Amazon photo. You can substitute the half circles for the triangle shapes for the church roof.)
What to do:
1. Before class print out the plans and make copies. Glue toothpicks together to make small crosses. Tape the crosses to the large triangle shapes. (You can use the half-circle shapes for the tops instead of the triangles.) (There are Seven Different Church Plans available to members on The Resource Room.)
2. Place the blocks and the printed plans on the table.
3. Encourage the children to follow the plans to build the churches. Older children may want to draw their own building plans for the building they create. Encourage children to trade plans and see if their classmates can build their plans.
4. Remind your children that God has a plan for them and they can know His plans from reading the Bible and doing what it says with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Songs
The wise man built his house upon the rock,
The wise man built his house upon the rock,
The wise man built his house upon the rock,
And the rains came tumbling down!
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
And the house on the rock stood firm.
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
And the rains came tumbling down!
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
The rains came down and the floods came up,
And the house on the sand went SPLAT
So, build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ
Build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ
Build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ
And the blessings will come down
Oh, the blessings come down
As your prayers go up
The blessings come down
As your prayers go up
The blessings come down
As your prayer go up
So build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ.
